I got an old computer from my brother. It’s an Acer Windows Vista. There’s a guest account and an account called "Adam", I tried to get on the Adam account but it won’t let me because it is password protected. I asked my brother for password, but he cannot remember the password. How to unlock it?
My first suggestion is to just format the computer hard disk, and then re-install Windows if you have a setup CD or bootable USB flash drive at hand. That'll work, but you will lose some data on your computer. Considering that you got the old computer from your brother, so it doesn’t matter.
If you are not prone to reinstall Windows, you can try to open the command prompt to reset the forgotten Windows password if you have any access at all on the computer.
1) Type "net user" and hit enter.
2) Type "net user administrator /random" and again hit enter.
This will reset the admin password to a random password, but will show you the password it created. Use this password to log on and change the passwords to the other accounts, if that's what you want to do.
If not, use another computer and go to the official website of Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery to download this efficient Windows password recovery tool. After download, install and launch it, and the take out of your USB flash drive to start creating a bootable password reset disk. Insert the USB flash drive in computer, click on Create a Bootable USB flash Drive, select target USB drive and click Burn button. When the bootable password reset USB is created, click OK to finish the operation. It cost you only few seconds.
To reset the forgotten Vista password, insert the burned bootable USB in the Acer Windows Vista computer, then F12 or other keys to access BIOS utility, where you can set USB as the first boot device. When the Acer computer starts with the changed BIOS, you’ll see Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery with all the user accounts on this computer displayed. Just select the “Adam” account >> Click Burn button >> Click Ok to continue and confirm >> click OK when the password is reset >> Click Reboot button to restart computer. When the computer reboots successfully to the logon screen, you can go to the Adam account without password now.
Note: Please remember to remove the bootable USB before after clicking Reboot button.
The whole process will cost you no more than 5 minutes. No any data loss or damage problems occur.
